Research Assistant

Your responsibility

You will be located at TU Berlin, Chair of Industrial Information Technology, and will contribute to the research project cirKPI at the interface of sustainability assessment, Circular Economy (CE), and artificial intelligence. The aim of the project is to develop a Circular Decision Intelligence Toolkit that supports companies in the data-based analysis, evaluation, and implementation of circular product and business model decisions. Your tasks will include, in particular, the development and validation of a CE-key performance indicator framework, the linking of sustainability indicators with product, material, usage, and end-of-life data, as well as the scientific conceptualization of AI-supported decision logics for Circular Design and Circular Business Models. You will work closely with industry and research partners, support workshops and validation formats, supervise student assistants, and present your research results at national and international conferences, trade fairs, and transfer events.
The opportunity to pursue a doctorate is given.

Your profile

  • successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, sustainability management, environmental engineering, information technology, data science or a comparable field
  • very good knowledge in the field of sustainability, Circular Economy, sustainable product development, or life cycle assessment
  • good knowledge of sustainability assessment methods, e.g. LCA, CE-KPIs, resource efficiency, circularity, and R-strategies
  • first experience in the field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data-based decision support and preferably Large Language Models
  • good knowledge of Python, SQL, or similar programming languages
  • ability to conduct structured scientific work desirable
  • very good analytical and conceptual skills desirable
  • coordination skills desirable
  • good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
